ePub í mobi La reina descalza ñ PaperbackFree ↠ Ildefonso Falcones La reina descalzaI don't normally do this But I've spent four days reading a 700 some? page book and only made it to 30% It's stellar writing and an interesting historical tale of the life of the Gypsies and their persecution and customs in the late 1700s Spain The tale follows not only an apparently incredibly mind blowingly gorgeous Gypsy girl Milagros but also a former Cuban slave Caridad who also inspires men to wild lust as soon as they lay their eyes on her Yes I have a disembodied part in that sentence No I don't careCaridad's story broke my heart from page one I kept reading despite some irritation I'll get to that in hopes she'd find happiness and also a backbone But in the end despite the fact I wanted so much for the constantly beaten and raped Caridad I could not continueI not only felt I was on the outside looking in something I hate but I got incredibly tired of the rape sexual deviation and lust every w

ePub í mobi La reina descalza ñ PaperbackFree ↠ Ildefonso Falcones La reina descalzaAn enormous letdown after the author's wonderful Cathedral of the Sea This did paint a good picture of gypsy life in Spain in the 18th century and the prejudice the gypsies faced I could see the supposed beginnings of flamenco through the song and dance of two friends the gypsy Milagros and the black freed slave from the West Indies Caridad I persisted 300 pages but the details of violence towards women sexual abuse and sheer length packed with tiny details finally turned me off The author could have cut at least 100 pp from his bloated and turgid novel Not recommended

ePub í mobi La reina descalza ñ PaperbackFree ↠ Ildefonso Falcones La reina descalzaHaving very much enjoyed Falcones’ earlier novel Cathedral of the Sea I was disappointed to find that I really couldn't get through this one The subject matter has great potential for an enjoyable and compelling read but the author just hasn’t managed to carry it off The story starts when a former Cuban slave arrives in Seville and ends up being welcomed into the local gypsy community But this is not a good time for gypsies in Spain and soon after their persecution starts with a massive roundup From then on the book becomes a swashbuckling romp with melodrama after melodrama and some clichéd and generally unconvincing dialogue The author has researched his subject well and the historical detail I did find interesting But the characters failed to draw me in and I simply didn’t care about any of them I learnt a great deal about this turbulent period of Spanish history and much about gypsy life but
