Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review Since there were a ton of missing lines and passages as well as many grammatical errors my review is much lower The missing lines especially impact my review because I literally had no idea what was going on with some scenes and having to infer and guess what was being said left me honestly really confused Who is saying what What is going on Is she coming with him Is he leaving her That aside with the remaining passages I had left the story could have been a strong one Michiko and her family must deal with tensions in a Canadian town during WW2 Michiko aka Millie or Mitch copes with this through baseball We usually read about Japanese discrimination in WW2 from an American viewpoint so reading about Canadian history is a breath of fresh air I don't play sports either or know a thing about baseball but it was really cool that Michiko found her niche with the sport I r

Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review Thank you to NetGalley and publisherSet in the final years of the Second World War Cherry Blossom Baseball centers around a twelve years old Japanese girl called Michiko From what I understand Maruno has already written a couple of books about Michiko and her family but they're not part of a series per se This book works well as a stand alone although we barely get to meet her family and friends before they move to Ontario and a whole new bunch of characters are introduced Most of the plot is actually Michiko trying to adjust to her new life and keep up with her school mates She has to fight bullying prejudice racism and when she makes the school's baseball team she's also face

Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3Cherry Blossom Baseball is an engaging book about a Japanese girl named Michiko who is forced along with her family from her town in Canada to Ontario during World War II Isolated and scapegoated by her own country's racist policies Michiko is bullied by the kids in school where she is the only Japanese child Luckily Michiko has a heart as big as a Mack truck and loves baseball She is spunky courageous and with her strong pitching arm and great intelligence Michiko finds a way to play on an all boys baseball team She becomes a shero and eventually finds acceptance among her peers and adults alike It doesn't end the pain or the stigma faced by her family but it does ease things a bit Cherry Blossom Baseball is easy to read very absorbing and shows how a compelling character is impacted by the heartbreak of living with racism It shows in beautiful detail how a family copes with this loss and also how it damages some relationships and strengths others For me some of t

Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3I'm very interested in all things 'gender bender' so after reading the description I knew I had to read Cherry Blossom BaseballThe Michiko as a boy part wasn't really a big part of this story it started in the second half but Michiko was a very interesting character and I didn't miss it that much She is a young girl not only growing up during the second world war but also hated by most of

Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3I read an ARC which I freely received from NetGalley Sentences or parts of sentences were missing throughout the book which made it a frustrating read I believe the story line could be good but missing so many parts throughout the entire book make it unpleasantThe story itself is good Michiko is a young Japanese girl living in Canada during World War II She deals with prejudices against her including name calling and cruelty She deals with it however and continues to bring A's home on her report card Michiko who has an Americanized name at school and a nickname of Mitch given her by Eddie loves baseball One day she gets the opportunity to show her stuff in baseball and ends up on the boys baseball team Here she faces prejudices but this time because she is a female Avery interesting aspect of the story is the idea of Michiko writing letters to servicemen who are fighting people of her nationalityWe look back now and se

Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3Michiko and her family are moving out of a ghost town during WWII into a rented house in Ontario There she faces racism and bullying for Asian Her family's attitude of staying positive doing the right thing and working hard are at odds with Michiko's desire to fit in The story's characters are very strong Michiko's voice and concerns would be easily understood by modern kids The plot around baseball is very believable and engaging The outmoded attitudes about women playing on a boy's team are very realistically drawn and would serve as a good reminder to appreciate where we are tod

Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3 Summary · 2 Cherry Blossom Baseball Cherry Blossom #3From my reviewThe story itself really captures the tug of changing for instance the cultural shift demonstrated by the changing tide of the old ways brought over from Japan merging with the new ways of Michiko's Canadian home as well as the social change brought about by World War Two freedom for women or girls to do the things formerly thought of as men's sole domain like playing baseball
