kindle ¶ Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4 ¾ connecfloor Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4Let the Devil Out is my third Maureen Coughlin novel by Bill Loehfelm I loved the first two I read The Devil in Her Way and Doing the Devil's Work both set in New Orleans I have not read the first in the series The Devil She Knows which is set in New York But for me this one fell a bit short The story follows a search for The Watchmen a heavily armed militant white militia with its sights set on taking down all manner of authority including the New Orleans Police Department Coughlin is convinced the organization is funded and supported by one of the richest most powerful and most protected families in New OrleansLet's begin with the good Loehfelm captures the nuances of New Orleans as well as any mystery police writer out there right now It's reminiscent of Julie Smith's wonderful novels He has created a strong cast led by protagonist Maureen Coughlin whose deeply troubled life and flawed character reminds me of a female Dave Robicheau I have two problems with this installm

kindle ¶ Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4 ¾ connecfloor Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4I remember picking up the first book to feature Maureen Coughlin The Devil She Knows and kicking myself for not discovering her sooner In that book Maureen was a New York waitress that caught the attention of a psychopath to terrifying end and it changed her Take note though there is nothing soft about Maureen Coughlin She’s not physically imposing but she carries with her a coiled tension—a bit like a snake about to strikeAnd she bitesIt’s obvious she is suffering from PTSD going into the 2nd book in the series The Devil in Her Way A Novel which finds her fresh out of the police academy and far away from home as a rookie patrol officer in the New Orleans PD She uickly bonds with her training officer Preacher Boyd and to say that Maureen i

kindle ¶ Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4 ¾ connecfloor Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4Full disclosure Bill's a friend That said these books would get 5 stars even if I'd never met the man who wrote them Maureen is a fantastically flawed character whose voice captures something significant genuine and potent about contemporary New Orleans I hope we get as many Maureen Coughlin books as we've gotten about Dave Robicheaux and Easy Rawlins That's high praise and these books have earned it

kindle ¶ Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4 ¾ connecfloor Let the Devil Out Maureen Coughlin #4The next chapter in the Maureen Coughlin's series is the best yet Many elements set up in the The Devil in Her Way and Doing the Devil's Work are resolved but in what I can now say is in Bill fashion he leaves a door open and I am excited for the next book in the seriesBill has a way of weaving in the important elements in previous stories into this book where you don't feel lost behind or bored You could pick this book up without reading the previous books and not feel lost but you REALLY don't want to do that It is a tightly narrated story that is flush with cause effect and potential in the future Maureen Coughlin's is a flawed character that I'm rooting for and cannot wait to see where Bill takes her The best part of the book is the way Bill takes us through New Orleans He loves this city He breathes this city He understands this city Writing about New Or
