The Sadness of Geography Read  2 The Sadness of GeographyFor over three agonizing decades the island nation of Sri Lanka was mired in an ethnic conflict that led to a wanton spate of massacres mayhem and melee This conflict that pitted the Sri Lankan military against the separatist forces of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam “LTTE divided Sri Lanka along ethnic lines pitting the majority Buddhist Sinhalese dominated government against the minority Tamil speaking population When the dust finally settled over one of the longest sectarian strife in modern times the damage wrought was unspeakable Over 100000 lives are estimated to have been lost while the total economic c

The Sadness of Geography Read  2 The Sadness of GeographyFirst off just a warning for anyone interested in this book it definitely could have used a good edit or two the writing isn't the strongest BUT it's also a memoir and it's written by the author without the help of a ghostwriter as many memoirs out there are written so for that I chose to ignore the writing style while reading this book This book was really personal to me because my dad was also a Tamil exile that was forced to flee his home My dad doesn't really talk about his time leaving Sri Lanka and taking a long journey to finally make it to Canada I've overheard bits and pieces of the story throughout my childhood and knew it involved multiple countries jails fake identities refugee camps etc so I really loved this story because the author shares a very similar journey to my dad and I learned about what it was like to flee a country that was in a civil war and didn't like you for being Tamil This book also made me r
